Paper as an archive: memory, traces and material research in Vieques.
Explore the process
Biolumina is a nonprofit, artist-led residency in Vieques, Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean. A place for research, contemporary practice and exchange with the island’s cultural life.

Biolumina offers contemporary artists time and space to research, experiment and develop their practice in Vieques. The landscape, its histories and the people who inhabit it are part of that conversation.
We work at an intimate scale, through individual residencies, curatorial dialogue and public exchanges developed with local collaborators.
Our missionStudio space, accommodation and research time for practices in dialogue with place.
02International curatorial research: three days and two nights of studio visits in Vieques.
03Workshops, gatherings and works in progress shared with spaces across Vieques.
04Each resident donates an artwork for the annual exhibition and Casa Mi Rey collection; a book publication brings these contributions together.
Six projects, seven artists. The next cohort brings together individual practices and a duo collaboration in dialogue with Vieques.

Working here means paying attention: to ecology, to the memories held by the land and to the daily life of a Puerto Rican community. That attention informs the residency.
Our approachYour donation to Fundación Casa Mi Rey helps sustain artist residencies and free programs connecting artists with the Vieques community.
